NHTSA Escalates FSD Investigation to Engineering Analysis Over Low-Visibility Crashes

NHTSA upgraded its probe into Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software to an "engineering analysis" — its highest level of scrutiny — covering approximately 3.2 million vehicles, after identifying nine crashes (including one fatal) where the system failed to detect degraded visibility conditions or adequately warn drivers, a step that often precedes a recall.
